Angophora leiocarpa (prev. Angophora costata ssp. leiocarpa)
Wanna see a "bleeding" tree? This is definitely the Red Gum I have been wanting to show the world. Not the largest specimen, but one of the most interesting I've come across in quite some time. The resin pouring from this tree is insane, and it seeps from pores in the trunk. The bark is so saturated with resin that it gets stuck to the tree, and any that does manage to fall away and reach the ground forms a solid mat around the base of the trunk. Strangely enough, the resin is dry to touch, and even freshly exuded resin forms a skin very quickly. In good light, its colour is rich red, and in the shade, blood red. Originally spotted early morning, I returned later in the day for better light.
Found along the Reservoir Track in the Brisbane Forest Park at Enoggera Reservoir. Thick native bushland vegetation.
Here's another Red Gum I spotted in the same park a couple of weeks earlier. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/138... These trees never cease to amaze me.
