Vernonia angustifolia
Tall stalked forb with bright purple flowers. Flowers are unusual in shape and attract a number of pollinators. Stem of the flower has alternate, thin leaves with some serrations at the base. The one was around 2 ft tall.
Found in a wet pine forest in semi-sandy soil.
