tall grass meadow, perched on a tree.
Thanks for that info. I've only ever seen one and it only ran, trying to hide from me, but I did get some good photos eventually. They are on here somewhere. My book just states "seldom flies".
They did jump up the tree from branch to branch (actually both did, and they can actually jump very good ), but after getting on the tree, with me "blocking" their way while taking the pictures right underneath the tree, one if them did fly away, while the second waited and just went higher in the tree.
Interesting. Did it actually fly into the tree or did it climb?
Actually no. I was on a bike ride in a local meadow ( mostly tall dry grass), when I first spotted 2 of these guys for far away. A couple walking their dog accidentally scared them away and they ran to that tree to wait for the dog to go away, and this is where I took the pictures. Never saw one so close before, and never even saw one fly.
Hi Gael, who would have thought of seeing one on a tree!nice catch! Did you see it in a wetland?
