Sheep's Laurel, Lambkill

Kalmia angustifolia

Description:

Heath Family 30". Rounded evergreen shrub. Leaves 2", mostly in whorls of three; oblong, lower ones hang down. Bark smooth, brown. Flowers 1/2" deep pink, saucer shaped, in round clusters; stamens pop out when touched. Blooms May to August.

Habitat:

Bogs, shrubby swamps, pastures

Notes:

This is one of my favorite flowers in the bog. Part of what I love about spring is all the new flowers. I look forward to each one as their time to bloom arrives. Late May to Early June brings the Sheep's Laurel to live. Just in time for my birthday!
