Purple-flowering Raspberry

Rubus odoratus

Description:

Medium sized, perennial, shrubby plant without prickles (distinctive for this species). Produces loose clusters of pinkish-purple flowers with five petals. Large, wide maple-like leaves. Fruit looks like raspberries at maturity. Native plant.

Habitat:

Forest border.

Notes:

Fruit is edible raw or cooked. I actually ate one. It didn't have a lot of flavor and was fairly dry. Leaves and roots have traditional medicinal uses.
