Black Hooded Oriole

Oriolus xanthornus

Description:

This is a strikingly coloured bird. Golden Yellow body and black head with pink beak..it is called Merchant's wife in Bangla referring to its golden feathers ( a rich man' s wife bedecked in gold is the connotation.). Also called Halud (turmeric) Pakhi (generic word for bird) A very, very shy bird.

Habitat:

Casurina tree near the boundary wall of my house. I was amused to see the bird almost lose balance...as it tried to alight...that is why I could take a photo...it is very aware of its surroundings and shy.

Notes:

It has a sweet call.
