Phenomenal!
The tree looks like a blue gum with thick leaves but I'm not certain which one. The leaf looks quite unaffected in any other detail.
Maybe something damages one side when it's small? Two laps is pretty impressive. Do you know what species? Here's one on E. globulus http://www.flickr.com/photos/40325561@N0...
