Description:

A small hawk with long, pointed wings and a long, banded tail. It has a faint mustache mark. Brown streaking on chest and belly. Back unmarked gray or brown. Compared to most other small falcons, it is more robust and heavily built. It has been called Pigeon Hawk.

Habitat:

This is the Blue Goose Trail in Sabine National Wildlife Refuge. The Blue Goose Trail is a one mile foot path that leads you through a brackish marsh community to the edge of Calcasieu Lake. The area includes an observation tower, restroom, and numerous interpretive signs about the area.
