Beaver Signs

Castor canadensis

Description:

During the winter months, beavers will chew most woody vegetation, preferring sweet gum, ash, willows, poplar, cottonwoods, pines and fruit trees. This looks like a wild cherry tree freshly chewed down by a beaver. You can see the distinctive gnaw marks in the wood.

Notes:

Spotted in a small inlet and marshy area at Cauble Park on Acworth Lake.
