Description:

Aesculus californica (California Buckeye or California Horse-chestnut) is a species of buckeye that is native to California and southwest Oregon, and the only buckeye native to these states.

Notes:

The photos in this series were taken in a Redwood forest along the banks of a creek that came from Mt. Tam, in Marin County, north of San Francisco. This forest was very quiet with very little growing on the forest floor. The droppings from the Redwoods are too acidic for many plants. There was a variety of fern, and some small scraggly plants, but no fungi (too dry) and I saw very few birds. The next few spottings were of the main trees I saw in the forest
