Fruit-piercing Moth (female)

Othreis homaena

Description:

Colorful moth: 7-8 cm wingspan & 5 cm long Notice the 'eyes' behind its real eyes - at the junction of its thorax & abdomen. Long moustache too!

Habitat:

Forest of Phansad WildLife Sanctuary near Alibaug / Roha / Murud.

Notes:

This moth startled me when I approached to photograph it. Sensing my presence, it fluttered and the yellow of its wings took me by surprise. The picture has been taken with flash. Without flash, the green of the wings looks blue.
