Haploa clymene
Caterpillar approximately 2 1/2-3" long. Black body with yellow stripe on side. A black line forms a scallop-type pattern in the yellow band. Tufted hair bunches line the top body.
Found on vegetation at the edge of a wooded area which is fronted by a slight clearing.
Unfortunately, the photos in this series are not sharp; these are the first few shots from a new camera and I haven't learned its ins and outs yet. The caterpillar was on a plant that had dried flower seed heads but, also unfortunately, I do not know the plant.
I would take the same set, take the best ones (but do not trash the "bad" ones). Sometimes it is helpful to have some different views, even the pictures are not 100% sharp. After you got an ID you still might rearrange and change some again.
bayucca....I'm going to try to get new shots of this critter with my old point and shoot; is it permitted to swap out shots if they are of the same organism?
Arctiidae, Haploa sp. The picture is not as sharp as to see all important details. Might be Haploa clymene or another Haploa sp.
