Purple Loosestrife

Lythrum salicaria

Description:

End on season - second flowering on these plants so limited flowers spikes

Habitat:

Wet areas and open marshland

Notes:

We had been executing Gallerucella beetles as a control in this marsh and it was working well until this year. All of a sudden, there has been an explosion of this plant and in areas where it hasn't been seen growing before. We will re-implement the beetle control in the spring of 2013.
