Caligo brasiliensis
Ciudad - Guayana, Venezuela
I guess now that's all right. Unfortunately my trip is not around the world and after Asia and South America I will go back home)
Hi ViSarancha! Could you check that the dates on your spottings are correct and if necessary update them? Your last two spottings would have you on the same day in St-Barth and in Venezuela. Thank you in advance.
OK, I suggest that you delete #2 and make a separate spotting. You also have a Parides anchisiades from Venezuela, also taken on 4th of October. I know planes are rather quick today, but it seems to be very strange to have a spotting from St. Maarten in the Caribbean and from the middle on nowhere in the Venezuelan jungle on the same day. Please, check this as well. Did you make a trip around the world? On 24th of September you have some spottings from Thailand.
No bayucca. I can't be sure about anything except ukrainian species)). I identified this butterfly using dorling kindersley's "butterflies and moths" (by D.Carter). During that day with my camera I captured about 3 of a kind. I thought they are the same kind (these 2 pictures with the same ID but butterflies were different.) what would you recommend? thank you in advance
We have a little problem to solve...
I don't think this is native Caligo teucer semicaerulea. Where did you got this name from? To my knowledge there are no reports from Caligo found on St. Maarten. Semicaerulea is a species from Peru. It must be an introduced species or an escapee from the butterfly house in St. Maarten next to the Saline d'Orient. In this case it would be anyway tricky to get closer than the genus. Please, add some more information. This is an interesing "case"!
And: Are you sure that #1 and #2 are the same species??
