Streaked Notodontid

Destolmia lineata

Description:

This attractive moth is said to have a wing span of 70 mm. It is mostly grey with tinges of fawn colour. The basal part of the wings have a zigzag pattern edged with black. The rest of the wings are streaked with thin black and white markings. Wings are tented-up over the body. the thorax had two forward pointing tufts of grey setae and tucked under these tufts was a thick band of dark brown setae - like a collar (pic 5) Under wings are a sooty fawn colour.

Habitat:

Spotted under bright lights near a national park.

Notes:

I mistook this for a Cossid moth at first. Family: Notodontidae Subfamily: Notodontinae
