White tail and tail curl suggest Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). Mallard x Black Duck is a possibility, but in all plumages, they are usually paler on the throat and cheeks. I'd call this a Mallard drake molting out of eclipse plumage.
I'm not the best when it comes to water fowl but I think you are correct.
