Red / Scarlet Mormon (female)

Papilio rumanzuvia

Description:

This female Red Mormon has 4 inches wingspan . The continous red and white markings from the inner edge of the forewing to the hindwing on the upperside, distinguished it from other Mormon species. The male is smaller than the female .I have studied this female inside a cage and found out that it can lay more than 350 eggs , after that it dies. The caterpillar feeds on cultivated and wild citrus .The pupa phase lasts between 13 - 15 days.

Habitat:

Partly shaded areas of lowland and highland forests and populated lands.

Notes:

The second photo shows the upperside.
