Rhinoceros Beetle

Chalcosoma moellenkampi

Description:

A young male Atlas Beetle. The horns are not at their maximum size and it's right horn is broken. Whole body black in color. This species - Chalcosoma moellenkampi can be easily mistaken as the other 3 Chalcosoma species that are also found in Borneo. This species is endemic to Borneo and is distinguishable through it's upper narrow horns.

Habitat:

On the ground around Aristo Inn, Kundasang, Sabah.

Notes:

This beetle is black in color making it difficult to be photographed using flash because it's body absorbs the light. >>>Map accuracy : 10m diameter.
