fungus

Description:

Unidentified fungus attached to tree

Habitat:

Pacific Northwest montane mixed coniferous and deciduous forest ecosystem

Notes:

Spotted along Indian Trail in Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park near Issaquah; probably a variety of shelf or dinner-plate fungus, though its shape is closer to that of a marshmallow. There is of course lichen in the image as well.
