Assassin Bug Nymph

Reduviidae (Perhaps Zelus longpipes)

Description:

Long narrow head and black (apparently simple) eyes, legs, and partially developed wings. White spots on abdomen. Body mostly reddish-orange. I probably saw around half a dozen of these insects. Incomplete metamorphosis in the species indicated by partially developed wings on the insects and molted skins found in the grass near them.

Habitat:

Tall grass at the base of a pier-and-beam house near marshland and forest.

Notes:

While I observed the insects, the one holding the fly dropped it to the ground. I looked at the discarded fly and found that it's abdomen appeared deflated. (Date spotted and location approximate.) [Edit: thanks to Felix Fleck for ID family suggestion!]

Handle with care, especially the adults! They can give quite a nasty "poke"... it hurts. (Voice of experience!) :{
