Eulamprus quoyii
Smooth streamlined lizard about 8-12 inches long. Quite a fat 'flat' body - almost rectangular on cross-section. Bronze coloured back with a few small black patches. Creamy white underside - though I couldn't see what markings it may have there. The sides have quite distinct black vertical stripey markings over the creamy underside colour that wraps around and up the sides a bit with hints of yellow in it. There is a pale yellow line that extends from above the eye back about half way along the body and separates the back colour from the sides. The tail is about 1.25 times the length of the body.
These ones live underneath our demountables in the carpark of our works, but we are surrounded by coastal scrub land and a small boggy stream runs through the site. The area is pretty quiet apart from the comings and goings on-site. There is also plenty of space and greenery around to provide food for them.
From previous web searching, I thought this was an Eastern Water Skink, but having seen other posts about them here on Project Noah, which look nothing like what I've seen, I am now doubting my ID - can anyone help? I've included a reference to a 'Photo guide to Australian Lizards' on the Aussie Pythons and Snakes forum that seems to backup my ID...
Hi Grum.. I think the ID is correct so you could take the "?" out of the name. Here's another reference also http://www.arod.com.au/arod/reptilia/Squ...
