Siberian Squill

Scilla sibirica

Description:

Short, low growing wildflower. Introduced as an ornamental plant (and still sold as one in some places), Siberian Squill easily spreads into wild places and can be found in a variety of habitats. It is often one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring and the plant dies back and goes dormant once blooming is finished. In areas where it has become invasive, it can crowd out native plants with its rapid growth.

Habitat:

Temperate forest bordering the James River. Pony Pasture Park, Virginia.
