Thysanoplusia orichalcea
This moth caught my eye because the golden colour on its wings really looked like molten gold had been picked up on a brush and applied. The body is like a tent because that is how the wings meet. From the side the wings look triangular, broader at the free end. The general body shape resembles that of the green garden looper moth which I have seen earlier; elsewhere but the colouration is totally different.
Drawn towards the welcome light of the entrance to the Neora Valley Jungle Camp at Village Kolakham; a remote, forested area on the Indo-Nepal border. This place is situated at an altitude of 1868m in the Kalimpong Hills of Darjeeling District, on the fringes of Neora Valley National Park. The Canna lily was being explored by one while another was sitting nearby.
Wikipedia says, It is a polyphagous pest of vegetable crops that originated in Indonesia, from where it spread to Europe, South Asia, India, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Also called Soyabean Looper...I knew it looked like a Looper (though apparently not one , technically!!!)
