A duck-like diving bird. 32" Body is stout, ducklike. Summer: back black with large white spots; head, neck, and bill black; white bands on neck, eyes red. Winter: Slaty above, white below; bill slaty . Bill heavy, pointed. In flight legs extend beyond tail. Voice- Quavering laughter, yodeling; heard mainly on summer nights.
Summer and migration: Lakes. Winter: Coastal bays, ocean. Range- April to October: in VT, NH, ME. Sept- April: the entire coast
Photograph: I included the two summer Loons, followed by a man-made Loon nest to encourage Loons to nest while protecting the eggs and young from birds/animals of prey and humans. Added on is a photo of a Loon in winter plumage.

Love these birds!! I'm from MN and it's the state bird. Their call is so beautiful and haunting!! Great that your video captures a lot of different sounds from him...Great series!
