Butterfly bush

Buddleja davidii

Description:

Summer lilac? Leaves lanceolate, opposite. Garden escapes at Molly's beach. The genus belongs to the figwort family. Attract butterflies and bumblebees. Some species in South America have developed to adapt hummingbirds as exclusive pollinators! Although a pretty plant, it's highly invasive in BC and is considered noxious weed in Oregon and Washington. Interestingly - "The species are divided into three groups based on their floral type: those in the New World are mostly dioecious (occasionally hermaphrodite or trioecious), while those in the Old World are exclusively hermaphrodite with perfect flowers."
