White-tailed Deer

Odocoileus virginianus

Description:

Doe with winter molt, on the smaller side.

Notes:

I was biking through town when I saw movement in the side of a ditch; I braked and turned around I saw this deer. After taking a few pictures I noticed that it was not moving, which was strange since I was sure I had startled it. I soon noticed that it was shaking, and on closer examination I realized that its lower back was broken. My heart went out to this poor creature, so scared and hurt. We humans can do terrible things with our cars. May she rest in peace.
