Cape Starling

Lamprotornis nitens

Description:

All blue and very glossy (bluish glossy in a way), with orange eyes, this is a very common starling species of Southern Africa.

Habitat:

This is a common bird of arid terrains and open woodlands, whose distribution is confined to Southern Africa. This spotting is the compilation of four different ones - all from Kunene region, northwest of Namibia, and all observed in similar environment: rural areas, dry and rocky terrains, open acacia woodlands. The Kunene region in general is arid open acacia tree-and-shrub, very dry (but still magnificent and rich in wildlife) at the moment, following a three-year dry-spell.
