Giant Sequoia

Sequoiadendron giganteum

Description:

The IUCN lists giant sequoias as endangered. Different individuals are pictured.

Habitat:

Naturally occurring giant sequoias are restricted to the slopes of the Sierra Nevadas in California. These were seen in Mariposa Grove, Yosemite National Park.

Notes:

3rd and 4th photos show fire damage. In the last photo, the tree hole is large enough for at least three adults to sit inside.

The Mariposa Grove will be closed for 2 years starting this summer. I'm really glad that I got to see the giant sequoias before that.
