Hypoxylon fragiforme
These are saprophytic fungi growing on dead beech branches, collected on forest floor. The fruitbodies are small and round, about 5-7mm in diameter (for size, see pic N°3, comparing them to the tip of a knife). On the surface, they seem to be covered by brick red or rusty-brown dusty matter. Perithecia are localised just under the surface , and the interior flesh is hard and black (pic N° 4 present a freshly made cut).
Found on dead braches laying on forest floor, lowland (protected) forest in Geneva lake valley. The forest in question is deciduous, and mainly oak and some beech.
