Grey-headed Flying Fox

Pteropus poliocephalis

Description:

All black with a beautiful rust mantle. Really big!!

Habitat:

This huge roost covered many, many trees in Centennial Park, in Sydney, NSW. I tried to get some good photos of them leaving their roosts in the city trees in Hyde Park and other places at dusk but no success. I confess to finding them really cool, but might not like them roosting in my trees every day.

Notes:

Warm summer evenings, fruit bats starting to chatter and swirl, this is one of my happy memories of strolling around Sydney.
