Cup Fungus Sp

Cookenia sp?

Description:

Small red 'cup' like fungus on a white stalk, found in one's and two's growing out of dead wood close to the ground. Approx 3" high and 1-1.5" across the cup. Am fairly sure this is of the genus Cookenia from the family Sarcoscyphaceae. Possibly Cookenia sulcipes?

Habitat:

Found on dead wood in very wet rain-forest along river banks that regularly get flooded. Central PNG. The distribution of these species includes Central and South America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Australia and the South Pacific.

Notes:

This spotting is for the fungus, the spider is an extra and I have no idea what that is either!! (Perhaps some kind of Huntsman?) If anyone can help me with the spider I am happy to make it a separate spotting.

Have finally come up with a likely candidate. Having seen similar looking fungus in both Brazil and New Zealand I am fairly sure of the genus but the exact species remains unknown. If anyone thinks I am completely off the page I am more than happy to be corrected.

Thank you Polilla. Sorry I haven't been able to ID either the fugus or spider at this point but hoping someone here will be able to help.

Thanks Machi. This does look so familiar to some I saw in South America. Will keep trying and I really appreciate the link.
