Description:

The Belted kingfisher is slate blue and white with a shaggy crest. Both sexes have a white spot at the base of their stout bill. The female has a rufous band across its belly that the male doesn't have.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Black Bayou Lake NWR in Louisiana (see pic 5).
