Ant's Nest

Oecophylla sp

Description:

Weaver ants's nest made by folding the broad leaves into a pouch. The pouch appears to be lined with some sort of cottony stuff.

Habitat:

Kayaler bagan or Kayal's garden is now a bird sanctuary in the heart of Kolkata city. Although called a garden, it is not a landscaped area with only decorative garden varieties...rather everything growing wild is preserved. So old epi-phyte laden trees rub branches with bamboo groves and wild vines trail all over so called weeds flourish. It was literally raining mangoes when we visited and all sorts of organisms were having a feast.

Notes:

The ants are orangish in colour. Perhaps:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weaver_ant Two young students also made a video recording with audio...the ants have a call.
