Jumping Spider

Cosmophasis parangpilota

Description:

Salticidae; Heliophaninae; Cosmophasis parangpilota Barrion & Litsinger, 1995. This little Jumping Spider appears to be thriving extremely well in our area and I think I am right in saying that it seems to prefer living in areas where there are people. I must point out that I have never seen C. parangpilota inside my house, but all of my observations have been in our garden, front yard, backyard, vegetables plots and also in the rice fields. When I occasionally go out on "bug hunts" in the nearby hills and forests, I never see one. There isn't any science in what I have just said, but it is something that I have gradually become aware of and if there are any Cosmophasis parangpilota fans out there, I would be interested to hear if you have noticed anything similar.

Habitat:

I spotted this Jumping Spider on a Chinese hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) in our front yard. The local name for this plant is Gumamela.
