Escarabajo de las bodegas

Blaps lusitanica

Description:

They stand out for their size, which can reach 3 cm, for their black color and for not being able to fly, since the elytra that hide the flying wings are glued. They are nocturnal insects that feed on plant residues, decomposing organic matter and even excrement. Their walk is slow, somewhat clumsy, as if it were difficult for them to calculate which of their six legs it is that they have to move to start the march. During the day they hide among branches, stones and fallen leaves.

Habitat:

Dune area next to the Mediterranean Sea.
