Northern flicker

Colaptes auratus

Description:

When I spotted this woodpecker in the grass one evening at dusk, it seemed unusual to me as I most often see them high in trees. I have since learned that flickers mainly eat ants and beetles so it is common for them to be on the ground.

Habitat:

Mason Farm Biological Reserve
