Great Spangled Fritillary

Speyeria cybele


The upperside wings are brownish orange with variable degrees of darker brown spread on the inner half of both wings. There is also a pattern of stripes, spots and crescents along the outer half of the wings. The body is brown with thin, club-tipped antennae.


Spotted on the Discovery Center Trail at Tamarac. It was in an open woodland area on a raspberry leaf.


Belongs to the Fritillary group.
