Black Hawthorn

Crataegus douglasii

Description:

Large shrubs or trees to approximately 10 meters. The leaves are alternate, deciduous, and quite leathery. The fruit hangs in clusters and is edible but with large seeds.

Habitat:

Common throughout the Pacific Northwest in undeveloped areas. The European Common Hawthorn is the shrub we usually call Hawthorn since it has been planted in gardens and has spread to most parks.

Notes:

Found along the trails in Centennial Park, Tsawwassen, BC
