Hairy Woodpecker

Picoides villosus

Description:

This is a female hairy woodpecker. It is very similar to the male, but without the red spot on the back of the head. White feathers under the tail without black dots distinguished it from the Downy Woodpecker.

Habitat:

Lives mainly in forests and parks, can be seen in the suburbs. Present throughout Québec, except the Far North.
