Lion

Panthera leo

Description:

Another Lion for World Lion Day. This female and her cubs spotted in Samburu National Park, Kenya.

Habitat:

Dry Scrublands

Notes:

We saw this Lioness dragging a cow that she had killed, absolutely exhausted with the effort. The next morning we spotted her again, still with the cow and with her cubs. Amazing experience. The difference between the Lions we saw here in Samburu and in the Masai was striking. In Samburu it was clearly a daily struggle to find food to survive, whereas the Masai had abundant prey and the Lions were visibly healthier and fitter (and lazier!).
