Red-winged blackbird

Agelaius phoeniceus

Description:

After the flock of red-winged blackbirds that visited my yard had left, one female remained behind on her own. Imagine my surprise when I found one day that she a male cowbird were courting! He was strutting for her and displaying his feathers to best advantage; she was preening his head. This went on for about 7-10 days. It appears she has finally moved on.

Habitat:

My yard
