Muscrat

Ondatra zibethicus

Habitat:

Muscrats build mounded dens in wetlands similar to a beaver lodge. But unlike beavers they don't build dams.

Notes:

This muscrat in the first picture looks to have a serious infection in its ear. The second picture shows a healthy muscrat. Both were in the marsh at Great Meadows NWR.
