Varnish Leaf

Dodonaea viscosa

Habitat:

"Widely distributed through the southern hemisphere including Australia, New Zealand, South and Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America; also occurring in the southern United States. It is tolerant of drought and can grow in coastal environments." see reference page.

Notes:

Hopbush seems to be the most popular common name, however I'm using the common name used by the Everglades National Park "Checklist of Vascular Plants". These bushes were very numerous growing around the parking area between the lake and trail entrances of Long Pine Key area. They were in fruit and growing among the grasses and palmettos.
