Females upper body is black and the lower body just white. The head has white spots. The male upper body is black and white, Head has a white cap and is iridescent black and blue colors. Birds are small ducks.
Ponds, lakes and other wetlands
The Bufflehead hen accompanies a Coot or Mudhen in the first three frames. The last picture is a pair of Buffleheads with the hen outboard of the drake that is on the camera side of the picture.
