Purple-headed Sneezeweed

Helenium flexuosum

Description:

3 lobed yellow ray flowers, plant is approximately 3 feet tall, dark purple-maroon colored disc, with grooved slightly hairy stem.

Habitat:

Found growing on the roadside of an old open field that is mowed twice per year.

Notes:

Sadly, the day after this photo was taken, this plant was mowed down. I'm very happy to have seen it in its glory, but sad it is now chopped down.
