Great Mormon Butterflies (mating)

Papilio memnon

Description:

Two large dark coloured butterflies mating.

Habitat:

Chilapata Forest is a dense forest near Jaldapara National Park in Dooars, Alipurduar district, West Bengal, India. It is about 20 km from Alipurduar (coordinates given). This photo was taken inside the Chilapata Jungle Lodge which is located right where the jungle ends.

Notes:

The pair felt disturbed when others came up to see what I was shooting and they flew away (still attached) to another tree. We left them undisturbed after that. I suppose we owe them an apology. There are FOUR male and NINE female forms: polymorphic species.
