A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Sitta canadensis
The breast and belly are red as its name suggests. Cap and a band at the height of the eye is black and very distinctive. The back is gray-blue uniform. Fingers of legs are long and gray. The bill is gray, long and thin. Chest and abdomen red and black headband distinguish it from the White-breasted Nuthatch. The female is similar, but with the cap gray rather than black. Long fingers allow him to walk in any direction on the trunks of trees. It is often seen upside down searching for food around the branches.
Lives in the forests and parks. Present throughout the province of Quebec south of James Bay.
