Canna indica
The seeds (pic 2) are small, globular, black pellets, hard and dense enough to sink in water.
Spotted at Ala Wai Community Gardens.
Canna can be used for the treatment of industrial waste waters. Reportedly, during the Indian Mutiny of the 19th century, soldiers used the seeds of this plant when they ran out of bullets.
