Petty spurge

Euphorbia peplus

Description:

Usually, the leaves of this plant are green and the lower stem is reddish. This plant has been used as the basis for a medication to treat skin cancers.

Habitat:

Sandy Creek municipal park

Notes:

I had trouble identifying this plant which was spotted in winter. A group of plant enthusiasts debated the identification of this specimen for some time and concluded it was an unusual case in which the leaves also took on a reddish hue, perhaps due to cold weather.
