low growing, fern like foliage, small claw shaped red flowers, flowers April through June

Habitat:

Carolinian forest

Notes:

I spotted this at Marcy's Woods, a privately owned chunk of Carolinian forest. I have never seen this species anywhere else.

Another common name for this species is Lousewort or Forest Lousewort. I actually have two different colors of it coming up wild in my yard. I love it !

It's not the same species but it lead me to find the correct species. Thanks a lot Yuko. Really love your spottings of the other species.
